Full Professor at the University of São Paulo Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics, and Atmospheric Sciences, in São Paulo, Brazil, working in the field of geophysics, with an emphasis on applied meteorology. The main lines of research pursued by Prof. Freitas are related to the development of atmospheric models for weather forecasting and their application in air quality or environmental impact studies. The use of hydrological models and satellite-derived products, mainly to define surface characteristics, has also been a focus of his research.
