New Research Published: Air Pollution Worsens Acute Kidney Injury

We are thrilled to announce that our PM Kidney Consortium team has published groundbreaking research in the Journal of Pathology! 🌟

Our latest study, “Air Pollution Aggravates Renal Ischaemia–Reperfusion-Induced Acute Kidney Injury”, uncovers critical insights into how air pollution impacts kidney health:

  • PM2.5 Exposure: Fine particulate matter significantly worsens kidney damage caused by ischaemia-reperfusion injury (IRI).

  • Increased Inflammation: Mice exposed to PM2.5 showed deteriorated kidney function and heightened inflammation.

  • Link to CKD: This research suggests a potential connection between air pollution and a higher risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) following acute kidney injury (AKI).
